Signal Permeability is a collaborative project between Sound Practice Research at Folkwang University of the Arts and Sound Studies at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), organised, and managed by students from both universities and supported by MIDAP. The project provides a platform for collaborative exploration, co-educational encounters, self-directed projects, and experimental practices in sound. These processes take shape through live performances, exhibitions, and other forms of shared artistic practice.

Co-educational encounters, self-guided projects, and practice for live performances and exhibitions through two cities in Germany.
During winter semester, participating students from both universities are invited to develop projects of their own interests, while taking part in workshops, expanding their own technical and critical explorations, and participating in supervision encounters with different lecturers and invited artists from berlin, essen and other parts of europe.
Having sound and music a common framework, this platform offers its students the opportunity to think of their practice as signals roaming in between and through space: the ones which can be tuned by others, affect and be simultaneously transformed by its own exposure to other interferences in the medium.
Within these developments, inconsistencies appear as a productive condition. The geographical distance, diverse background, and artistic interests of every participant is not necessarily a call for a middle ground, but a critical openness to reframe the differences, and what permeates from one school to another.
